Choosing the right Photographer/Videographer

Updated: Jan 21, 2023

When it comes to planning your wedding, choosing the right photographer and videographer is essential. These professionals will be responsible for capturing all of the precious moments of your big day, so it's important to take the time to select the right team. Now, the right team is different for every couple as the wants and needs of every wedding are different, so to help you make a choice that's right for you, here are a few tips to help you choose the perfect photographers and videographers for your wedding

Determine your style:

Before you begin your search, it's important to determine your personal style. Do you prefer a traditional, romantic look or something more contemporary? Do you like something that's very produced or do you prefer candid and spontaneous? These are important things to ask yourself before you begin searching. Now, talented videographers and photographers are a dime a dozen, but that doesn't mean they can all make a video or take a photo according to the style you like and want. Many Professionals have spent years refining a specific style and format and you're likely to be the most satisfied by matching your wants with a professional that specializes in that.

Meet in person:

Once you've narrowed down your options, it's important to meet with your potential photographers and videographers in person. This will allow you to get a sense of their personalities and communication styles. This is important because having good chemistry with your professionals will help take away from the stress of your big day and build confidence and trust between you and them.

How much experience do they have?

It's important to take into account their experience and expertise. When something goes wrong at the wedding like a camera malfunction, weather, lights going out, or a million other things that could happen, an experienced videographer and photographer is more equipped to be able to overcome these situations and continue producing high-quality content whereas an inexperienced person is likely to be underprepared and freeze up leaving you in a bad situation. There are other things to take into consideration as well, such as if they know how to handle different light scenarios to ensure that you continue to look good, this is less important in photo and very important in video work as videographers have less flexibility in fixing these types of things in post. Something else that's great to know is if they've worked at your venue before. It's not the most important detail, but it can be really handy to have professionals who have worked at that location and are familiar with all of the good locations and don't have to experiment as much.

Check their availability

make sure to check their availability in case you are trying to plan a destination wedding or if it is in peak wedding season. if they are available, book them as soon as you can. Professionals can only do so many weddings in a year and they can't hold a spot waiting for you to decide. Of course, it takes time to make that decision, but make it as quick as you can or you might end up losing that date to another couple.
